To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment, Transport and the Regions what powers he has to grant an extension of time beyond an original deadline to a water company to permit submission of its statement of case and list of documents in relation to an application for compulsory purchase. Rule 19 of the Compulsory Purchase By Non-Ministerial Acquiring Authorities (Inquiry Procedure) Rules 1990 enables the Secretary of State to allow an extension of time when it is reasonable to do so.
