HC Deb 10 November 1999 vol 337 c671W
Mr. Paul Marsden

To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what percentage of household milk sold in England in the last year for which figures are available was organic; and if he will make a statement. [97938]

Ms Quin

No figures are available for liquid milk separately, but estimates produced by the organic sector itself indicate that organic dairy products had a retail value of £54 million in 1998–99. This represents around 1 per cent. of total retail sales of dairy products that year.

Mr. McWalter

To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what plans he has for using a single co-operative to market organic milk after 31 March 2000. [97850]

Ms Quin

None. The marketing of milk is a matter for the industry itself. There is already one co-operative marketing organic milk in England.
