Mr. Chaytor

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment, Transport and the Regions when he received a copy of the report from the Newspaper Publishers Association on targets for the recycled content of newsprint; if he will make a statement; and if he will place a copy of the report in the Library. Mr. Mullin

[holding answer 9 November 1999]: My right hon. Friend the Minister of State for the Environment received a copy of the Newspaper Publishers Association's Report in June 1999. However, since the Report was written by the Newspaper Publishers Association, it is for them to decide whether they wish to make it more widely available.

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment, Transport and the Regions what recent advice he has received from industry representatives concerning the maximum achievable recycled content of newsprint; and if he will make a statement. [97684]

Mr. Mullin

Friend the Minister of State for the Environment asked officials to discuss some of the issues further with the Newspaper Publishers Association. He is now awaiting further advice from the Association.
