HC Deb 10 November 1999 vol 337 c649W
Mr. Geraint Davies

To ask the Secretary of State for Health what plans he has to set targets for the NHS for the reduction in the number of avoidable medical accidents. [93652]

Ms Stuart

It is, of course, important that patients should feel confident that they can rely on the National Health Service to provide the best care and treatment possible. We are committed to improving clinical standards across the board, and that is what our reforms of the National Health Service, including the introduction of clinical governance and the new statutory duty of quality, are doing. One of the aims is that, as standards are driven up, so medical accidents will be reduced.
