§ Ms Jowell[holding answer 27 October 1999]: In the Oxfordshire Unit of Delivery, 303 young people have gained sustained employment through the New Deal for Young People since it started in April 1998 to the end of August 1999. In addition, 70 people aged 25+ have gained sustained employment through the New Deal in the Oxfordshire Unit of Delivery.
At the end of August 1999, 365 young people were participating in the New Deal. A further 255 people aged 25+ were participating in the New Deal for Long-term Unemployed People aged 25 and over.
As at June 1999, for the group of people who entered New Deal in Oxfordshire in the period July to September 1998, the average cost to public funds of each job found was £2,088.
