HC Deb 08 November 1999 vol 337 c443W
Mr. Dismore

To ask the Secretary of State for Health if he will list the percentage broken down by ethnic group of bone marrow donors. [94423]

Mr. Denham

There are two bone marrow donor registers: the British Bone Marrow Register and The Anthony Nolan Bone Marrow Trust. Both are working actively to encourage donor recruitment from black and ethnic minority groups through publicity campaigns. The Anthony Nolan Bone Marrow Trust has around 300,000 donors on its register and holds a breakdown of the percentage of donors by ethnic groups on its register which is shown in the table. The British Bone Marrow Register (BBMR) holds 100,000 donors but does not hold a similar breakdown by ethnic groups.

Donor figures: ethnic minority groups on the Anthony Nolan register as of 30 September 1999 (by percentage)
