To ask the Secretary of State for Defence what is the Royal Navy's budget for surface ship fuel in(a) the current calendar year and (b) the current financial year; and how much of that budget has been spent to date. [96737]

§ Mr. Spellar
In the current calendar year, the fuel budget for HM warships and RFAs is £27.314 million. Up to 30 September 1999, £20.854 million of this budget had been spent.
In the financial year beginning 1 April 1999, the fuel budget for HM warships and RFAs is £28.424 million. Up to 30 September 1999, £13.7 million of this budget had been spent.
