HC Deb 04 November 1999 vol 337 c283W
Mr. Nigel Griffiths

To ask the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry under what circumstances persons interviewed under section 177 of the Financial Services Act 1986 are instructed not to talk publicly about their evidence, after an investigation has been concluded. [96407]

Dr. Howells

[holding answer 28 October 1999]: Confidentiality requirements placed on witnesses in inspections, above those set out in statute for which there are criminal penalties, are a matter for inspectors. However the Department encourages inspectors to make clear to all witnesses the general and continuing confidentiality of the inspection process.
