HC Deb 04 November 1999 vol 337 cc253-4W
Mr. Hancock

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence what safeguards have been offered to ensure that Britain maintains control over the sale of Raytheon supplied BVRAAM missiles as part of the package with Eurofighter Typhoons to third countries. [96471]

Mr. Hoon

The US Secretary of Defence has given undertakings that the US Department of Defence would support the export of Raytheon supplied BVRAAM missiles as part of the package with Eurofighter to certain countries, and proposed that other sales should be reviewed by a joint US/UK group. In the event of the UK Government selecting the Raytheon proposal for BVRAAM, the details would need to be agreed and incorporated in a Memorandum of Understanding.
