HL Deb 26 May 1999 vol 601 cc93-4WA
Earl Howe

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether computer software currently being used by NHS Direct allows for clinical information to be exchanged via computer with other organisations in the National Health Service. [HL2635]

The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Department of Health (Baroness Hayman)

A number of clinical decision support systems are currently being piloted during the development phase of NHS Direct. The intention is to introduce a single national system.

A key priority for its procurement will be the ability of the system to electronically exchange information with other organisations in the National Health Service.
