§ Mr. Mudie[holding answer 13 May 1999]: It is estimated that an additional 5 per cent. of United Kingdom students would be exempted from paying tuition fees if the income level below which tuition fees are not levied were raised by £2,000; this figure would be 10 per cent. if the income level were raised by £4,000. The equivalent figures for Scottish domiciled students at United Kingdom universities are estimated to be 5 per cent. and 9 per cent.
