HC Deb 21 May 1999 vol 331 c469W
Mr. McNamara

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what representations he has received(a) in support of and (b) opposing the provisions of the Immigration and Asylum Bill from (i) civil rights groups, (ii) refugee organisations and (iii) the churches, indicating the provisions of the Bill referred to in each case. [84530]

Mr. Mike O'Brien

The information requested could be obtained only at disproportionate cost. The Special Standing Committee on the Bill received oral and written evidence from a wide range of civil rights groups, refugee organisations and church groups. This evidence has been printed in theOfficial Report, Special Standing Committee, Immigration and Asylum Bill (Other Memoranda and Letters submitted to the Committee). Ministers and officials in the Home Office have had correspondence from, and meetings with, a number of such organisations about provisions in the Bill.
