To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department on what date he received the report of the European Committee for the Prevention of Torture relating to the handling of deaths in police custody; and when he has to respond. [82650]

My hon. Friend may be referring to the report by the European Committee on the Prevention of Torture on its visit to the United Kingdom and the Isle of Man in September 1997.

We received the Committee's report in April 1998. The Government forwarded a response in October 1998.
