HC Deb 04 May 1999 vol 330 cc354-5W
Mr. Field

To ask the Secretary of State for Health when he expects to set out the Government's proposed course of action following the report of the Royal Commission on long-term care.[82657]

Mr. Hutton

While the Commission has been sitting, work has already taken place in many of the areas which their report highlights, such as developing a national strategy for carers and the extension of the direct payments scheme to people aged 65 and over. Where the Commission is recommending new policies for the future, these proposals will require more detailed consideration over the coming months.
