The Home Office statistical bulletin, "Drug Seizure and Offender Statistics, United Kingdom 1997" (Issue 8/99), was published on 29 April 1999. Table 3.10 shows that the number of offenders sentenced to immediate custody for drug offences in the United Kingdom in 1997 was 10,422.
