§ Baroness Symons of Vernham DeanThe British Council's Grants to Artists Scheme has been allocated £25,000 to cover the first three months of financial year 1999–2000. The council hopes that underspends in other budgets will provide funding for the remaining nine months. Funding for the scheme for the three previous years amounted to £67,565 in 1998–99, £120,618 in 1997–98 and £127,568 in 1996–97.
