HL Deb 25 March 1999 vol 598 cc183-4WA
Earl Baldwin of Bewdley

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What is their interpretation of the research into health problems arising from fluoridation of water supplies presented by Dr. Shusheela at her meeting with the Minister for Public Health on 26 October 1998. [HL1609]

Baroness Hayman

Insofar as it related to fluoride in drinking water, Dr. Shusheela's presentation concerned her views on the effects of the wide range of fluoride concentrations occurring naturally in drinking water in India. She attributed various adverse changes in teeth, bone and soft tissues to fluoride. In the United Kingdom, there is no evidence that fluoride at permitted levels in drinking water is harmful to health.
