To ask the Secretary of State for Social Security how many widows will be affected by the loss of the widow's bereavement allowance broken down by those aged(a) 50–55, (b) 55–60 and (c) 60 years and over; and what the average amount will be lost not including the effects of the proposed reforms to bereavement benefits. [holding answer 15 March 1999]: Existing claimants will retain their entitlement to this allowance even after 5 April 2000. Women who are bereaved after 5 April 2000 will not be able to claim the allowance.
