§ Lord WhittyTable (a) below provides details of the chairmen and board members of the regional development agencies (RDAs).
Our primary concern in appointing the board members for the RDAs was to choose people who would make an effective contribution and that they should not consider themselves to be the delegates of any group or body but should take into account the interests of the region as a whole. Board members have a wide range of experience including business, local government, education, trade unions and the voluntary sectors. At least one member on each board can offer a strong rural perspective together with others who have 153WA relevant rural experience. Further details of members' relevant background experience and interests were published at the time of their appointment and placed in the Library of the House.
Political allegiance only played a part in the appointment process in the case of the local authority members. Table (b) provides details.
