HL Deb 22 March 1999 vol 598 c134WA
The Earl of Northesk

asked Her Majesty's Government:

How many Statements on health-related matters have been made in the House of Commons in the period 2 May 1997 to 16 March 1999; and whether these provide an adequate opportunity for Parliament to scrutinise the Government's policy intentions in this area. [HL1580]

The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Department of Health (Baroness Hayman)

Between 2 May 1997 and 16 March 1999 my right honourable friend the Secretary of State for Health made twenty-one oral statements to the House of Commons. We are satisfied that Parliament has ample opportunity to scrutinise the Government's policies on health.
