HC Deb 09 March 1999 vol 327 c144W
Mrs. Laing

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland how many days of in-service training are provided for(a) primary and (b) secondary school teachers in each local authority area per year. [74639]

Mrs. Liddell

Under the current Scheme of Salaries and Conditions of Service for teachers employed in education authority-controlled schools there is provision for a maximum of 5 working days out of the school year to be spent on planned activities such as in-service training. The timing and planning of such dates are drawn up by the headteacher in consultation with staff, and within guidelines provided by the local authority.

As from 1 July 1999, this will be a matter for the Scottish Parliament.
