HC Deb 09 March 1999 vol 327 c134W
Mr. David Marshall

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will review the proposal to change the name of the M74 motorway to the M6; and if he will make a statement. [74409]

Mr. Macdonald

The previous Government had proposed that once the Glasgow to Carlisle road was upgraded to motorway throughout, its name should change to the M6. I confirm that there is no intention to renumber the route before all the remaining sections of the all-purpose route have been upgraded. From 1 July 1999, this will be a matter for the Scottish Parliament.
