§ Ms Glenda JacksonThe South Wales Traffic Area has been administered from Birmingham since 1997. The administration of operator licensing for North Wales is currently carried out from Leeds. The proposals to be put before the House shortly will create a new traffic area for Wales by combining the South Wales Traffic Area with 963W North Wales. To minimise disruption to operators and cost, the new Traffic Area will be administered from Birmingham. The Traffic Commissioner will continue to hold his Public Inquiries in Wales as appropriate. Plans are in hand to modernise the information systems within Traffic Area Offices which will allow us to consider the case for providing facilities in Wales in due course.
