HC Deb 04 March 1999 vol 326 c895W
Mr. Maclean

To ask the Minister for the Cabinet Office what official visits he, his ministers or officials have paid to Zimbabwe since May 1997; whom they met; and what was discussed. [73459]

Dr. Jack Cunningham

Since 1 May 1997, neither I nor any other Minister in the Cabinet Office has visited Zimbabwe.

Two officials of the Cabinet Office have visited the country in the last 21 months.

The first official visited Zimbabwe between 19 and 30 May 1998 and provided keynote speeches at four conferences on performance management. The conferences were organised by the British Council in partnership with the Zimbabwe Institute of Public Administration and Management (ZIPAM).

The second official visited between 20 and 23 May 1998, and held discussions with Government and non-Government organisations on current events in Zimbabwe and the region.
