To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Employment (1) what representations he has received from the Pre-School Learning Alliance; [73289]

(2) if he will make a statement on future funding for the Pre-School Learning Alliance. [73688]

The Pre-School Learning Alliance (PLA) regularly contacts Ministers and officials in the Department about a wide range of issues, including grant funding for the Alliance, which—for 1999–2000—is under active consideration.

PLA members play an active part in the delivery of child care and early years education through early years development and child care partnerships and I believe they will play an important role in the expansion of child care and nursery education in the future.
