To ask the Secretary of State for Defence if he will make a statement on the actions taken by his Department further to the testing of nuclear devices by(a) India and (b) Pakistan. [73978]

I refer the hon. Member to the reply given by my hon. Friend the Minister of State, Foreign and Commonwealth Office on 2 March 1999,Official Report, column 685. In support of the policy set out there my Department has reviewed and strengthened its procedures to ensure that no defence-sponsored training is provided to Indian or Pakistani nationals that might contribute to the development of nuclear weapons or their means of delivery.
