To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland how many people with a main diagnosis of schizophrenia psychoses were admitted for a hospital stay more than once during the last year in Scotland. [73233]

Mr. Galbraith

The number of individual patients with a main diagnosis of schizophrenia psychoses admitted to mental illness hospitals and psychiatric units in Scotland during the year ending 31 March 1996 was 2,482, of which 675 were admitted more than once.

From 1 July 1999 this will be a matter for the Scottish Parliament.
