To ask the Secretary of State for Defence on what date the(a) Defence Transport and Movements Executive and (b) Defence Postal and Courier Service Agency published their reports for the 1997–98; and what was the cost of production of the reports. [72953]

Ratazzi to Mr. Mike Hancock, dated 2 March 1999: I am replying to your Question to the Secretary of State for Defence about my Agency's Report for 1997–98 and the cost of its production, as this falls within my area of responsibility as Chief Executive of the Defence Transport and Movements Executive (DTMX). DTMX's Annual Report and Accounts for 1997–98 was laid before the House on 28 January 1999. The document was allocated number 181 by the Journals Office. The document was a textually accurate final proof of the Annual Report and Accounts. The final document has yet to be printed and we are awaiting a response from The Stationery Office Ltd. regarding the cost.

Cash to Mr. Mike Hancock, dated 2 March 1999: I am replying to your Question to the Secretary of State for Defence about what date the Defence Postal and Courier Services Agency published their Report for 1997–98 and the cost of production, as this matter falls within my area of responsibility as Chief Executive of the Defence Postal and Courier Services Agency. The Defence Postal and Courier Services Agency published its Annual Report for 1997–98 on the 14th July 1998. The cost for external printing of the Report was £8,146.45. All production work was carried out by Agency internal resources.

Holtom to Mr. Mike Hancock, dated 2 March 1999: I am replying to your Question to the Secretary of State for Defence about staff numbers at the Defence Intelligence and Security Centre as this matter falls within my area of responsibility as the Chief Executive of the Agency. There are current 408 staff working at the Defence Intelligence and Security Centre. At the time of establishment (1 October 1996) there was only a small implementation team based at Chicksands. The first record of numbers for the Agency relates to 1 April 1997 when the total numbers employed were 386.

Letter from John Chisholm to Mr. Mike Hancock, dated 2 March 1999: I am replying to your parliamentary question about numbers of people employed by the Defence Evaluation and Research Agency (DERA) at its inception and currently. On 1 April 1995, the inception of DERA, the number of staff employed was in the order of 12100. The comparable figure, for 1 February 1999, in some 11600. These figures are for civilian staff only. You should also note that on 1 April 1997 the support services of DERA were privatised with the transfer of around 1250 people to the private sector. I hope the above answers your question.

The DSA currently employs 82 people. At its launch on 1 October 1994 the Agency employed 101 members of staff.

The Logistic Information Systems Agency was formed on 1 April 1995. At that time, the strength of the Agency was 397. The strength of the Agency on 23 February 1999 was 235.

The report for 1998–99 has not yet been prepared and the cost of production is not therefore available. The report for 1997–1998 however was published on 16 July 1998 and cost £1,177.25.

When it first formed as a Defence Agency in April 1995, DTMX employed 78 Servicemen/women and 147 Civil Servants; a total of 225 persons. The strength for the financial year ending 31 March 99 is 78 Servicemen/women and 103 Civil Servants; a total of 181 persons.

Roycroft to Mr. Mike Hancock, dated 2 March 1999: I am replying to your Question to the Secretary of State about the number of people employed by the Defence Clothing and Textiles Agency as this matter falls within my area of responsibility as Chief Executive of the Defence Clothing and Textiles Agency. Currently there are 547 people (501 Civilians and 23 Military) employed by the Defence Clothing and Textiles Agency; at the time of its establishment the figure was 522 (503 Civilians and 19 Military). Since formation the Agency has had a significant increase in the range of commodities within its responsibility, including Defence Accommodation Stores and Engineer Stores.
