HC Deb 02 March 1999 vol 326 cc726-8W
Mr. Maclean

To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what systems he has in place to ensure that policies being developed by his Department are subject to a crime impact(a) assessment and (b) audit and are not likely to lead to enhanced criminal opportunities. [72750]

Mr. Morley

[holding answer 24 February 1999]I refer the right hon. Member to the reply given by my hon. Friend the Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for the Home Department in relation to departmental co-operation, on 24 February 1999,Official Report, column 311. I can also confirm that MAFF's policies are subject to audit monitoring to prevent and detect fraud, both internal and external to the Department. In particular, MAFF applies controls to guard against fraud and irregularities in administering Common Agricultural Policy schemes. These controls are subject to regular audit under EU procedures.
