§ Mr. Nick BrownThe advice to Ministers on this matter, given by the then Chief Medical Officer, Sir Kenneth Calman, on 3 December 1997, was the subject of a Department of Health Press Release issued on 5 December 1997. Further advice from his successor, Professor Liam Donaldson, was given in a memorandum on 18 January and published on 4 February. Both the Department of Health Press Release and the memorandum are available in the Library of the House.
