§ Mr. BoatengThe overarching aims and objectives for the police service, which were published last year, include the reduction of casualties. My right hon. Friend the Home Secretary made it clear in his letter to Chief Officers of Police and their Police Authorities that he saw traffic policing as central to the police's responsibility for maintaining law and order and reducing crime and that he expected road policing to play a full part in achieving safer communities.
