§ Mr. MacleanTo ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what assessment he has made of the consequences to the beef sector of discontinuing the calf processing scheme from the end of July. [88349]
§ Mr. Rooker[holding answer 28 June 1999]: Closure of the Calf Processing Aid Scheme on 31 July will benefit the beef sector. By removing the artificial floor in the market for calves, it will encourage UK production of manufacturing quality beef to displace imports.
