HL Deb 18 June 1999 vol 602 c60WA
Viscount Addison

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What instructions have been given to the National Blood Transfusion Service regarding the acceptance of blood donations from butchers. [HL2982]

The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Department of Health (Baroness Hayman)

Guidelines on the medical assessment of donors are prepared by the United Kingdom Blood Services' standing advisory committee on the care and selection of donors. All donors are subjected to careful screening, but no specific advice regarding donations from butchers has been issued by the National Blood Service.
