HC Deb 16 June 1999 vol 333 c182W
Mr. Goggins

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Security if he will estimate the level of earnings which would be defined as gainful employment for the purpose of claiming invalid care allowance if it had been increased in line with inflation in each year since the last increase; and what the additional cost to public funds would have been in the current year. [86852]

Mr. Bayley

The level of weekly net earnings below which it could be possible to be eligible for Invalid Care Allowance would currently be £59 if it had been increased in line with inflation since the last increase. It is not possible accurately to estimate the level of additional public expenditure which would have been incurred as a result.

Mr. Goggins

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Security when the level of earnings which is defined as gainful employment for the purpose of claiming invalid care allowance was last increased. [86851]

Mr. Bayley

The level of earnings defined as gainful employment for the purpose of claiming Invalid Care Allowance was last increased on 12 April 1993.
