To ask the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport how many British individuals took holidays abroad in the first three months of(a) 1998 and (b) 1999; and what their estimated expenditure was in these two periods. [86696]

The estimates currently available from the International Passenger Survey, conducted by the Office for National Statistics (ONS), are shown in the table. A breakdown of 1999 visits by main purpose of visit, to reveal holiday visits, is not yet due to be published by ONS.
