HC Deb 16 June 1999 vol 333 c150W
Sir Peter Emery

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence how many personnel who retired from the Army in the last 24 months have been persuaded to re-enlist; and if he will list the main places where they are now serving. [86146]

Mr. Doug Henderson

The number of Officers and Other Ranks who have left the Army within the last 24 months, and who have subsequently re-enlisted is as follows:

Rank Numbers re-enlisted
Officers 2
Soldiers 597

Some 84 per cent. of those who have re-enlisted are currently serving in Great Britain and Northern Ireland with a further 12 per cent. in Germany and theatres in the former Yugoslavia. The remaining 4 per cent. are serving in a variety of posts and theatres worldwide. These figures exclude mobilised Territorial Army (TA) and Reserve personnel.
