HL Deb 15 June 1999 vol 602 c13WA
Lord Ashbourne

asked Her Majesty' s Government:

What action they propose to take following the findings of the Independent Television Commission that the series entitled "Sex and Shopping" contained some imagery which was unacceptable for broadcasting at any time, given that Channel 5 now intends to repeat this series in the autumn. [HL2591]

Lord McIntosh of Haringey

The Independent Television Commission (ITC) is responsible for ensuring that programmes shown on commercial television comply with its codes and licence conditions. Every' broadcaster has a responsibility to ensure that programmes do not contain material which fails to comply. It will be for the ITC to decide whether any version of this series which may be shown in the future contains unacceptable material and, if so, to decide what action should he taken.
