HC Deb 08 June 1999 vol 332 cc233-4W
Dr. Gibson

To ask the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry what plans he has made for a British delegation to the World Science Congress in Budapest. [85305]

Mr. Battle

The exact composition of the UK delegation will be determined soon. It is likely to comprise representatives from the Office of Science and Technology, the Department for International Development, the United Kingdom's Permanent Delegation to UNESCO and the Parliamentary Office of Science and Technology. It is hoped that other non-governmental organisations will also be represented.

The Government's Chief Scientific Adviser, Sir Robert May, is giving one of the main presentations during the first, scientific, section of the Conference, and my hon. Friend the Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for International Development will make a statement on behalf of the Government during the plenary debate in the final section of the Conference.
