HC Deb 08 June 1999 vol 332 cc267-8W
Mr. Evans

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales if he will publish a breakdown of his Department's budget for advertising the elections to the National Assembly for Wales. [85511]

Mr. Michael

The Welsh Office budget for the National Assembly Information Campaign is £2 million. Expenditure to date breaks down as follows:

  • Integrated media (including press and television advertising, events and promotion): £1,196,274
  • Publications and internet: £333,367
  • Research: £134,246
  • Miscellaneous: £12,099.

I am pleased to say that there was cross party support for the campaign to encourage people to vote. As the turnout demonstrates, there is some way to go in persuading people that voting in an Assembly election is important for them and their families.
