HL Deb 07 June 1999 vol 601 c142WA
Lord Kennet

asked Her Majesty's Government:

How many officials within (a) the United Kingdom; (b) the European Union; (c) the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe; and (d) NATO are currently working on the problems of South East Europe when NATO intervention has ceased. [HL2510]

Baroness Symons of Vernham Dean

Work on South East Europe co-operation and regional security issues in the UK involves several government departments, whose officials co-operate closely. The exact number of those engaged full-time in this work varies as departments respond to the demands placed upon them, but staff numbers are under tight control. A number of other officials contribute varying proportions of their work to these matters, as part of their wider duties.

It would incur disproportionate costs to provide the other information requested.
