HL Deb 07 June 1999 vol 601 cc143-6WA
Lord Harris of Haringey

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What statistics are collected concerning the ethnicity of those employed as lecturers and teachers in further education colleges in Greater London, whether such statistics are broken down between those employed on permanent contracts and those employed on short-term contracts; and whether such information is made publicly available. [HL2725]

Baroness Blackstone

Statistics of all staff employed in further education sector (FE) colleges in England are collected by the Further Education Funding Council (FEFC). The information collected from each FE college includes data on the primary role of college staff (i.e. whether teaching, supporting teaching & learning or other support), ethnicity and type of contract. The FEFC publish this information in their annualStaff Statistics Volume, which includes national data on ethnicity and regional data on primary role and type of contract. Copies of the relevant tables from the January 1999 volume are below. This information is also available on the FEFC website: http..//www.fefc.ac.uk. To protect the confidentiality of ethnic staff, tables showing a breakdown of ethnicity by region, by type of contract, which would contain small numbers in some cases, are not published.
