HL Deb 07 June 1999 vol 601 c141WA
Lord Kennet

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether there have been three incidents of a "missile falling in Bulgarian territory during the past two weeks", as stated by the Bulgarian Interior Minister on 29 April. [HL2403]

Baroness Symons of Vernham Dean

Since the beginning of the current conflict in Kosovo, there have been a total of six incidents of missiles falling on Bulgarian territory. NATO has admitted that five of these came from NATO aircraft, in error. The sixth is believed to have been a Yugoslav missile. None of these incidents has caused injuries.

NATO is in close contact with the Bulgarian authorities, and both sides are working to avoid further incidents.
