To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer how the Office for National Statistics performed against its key targets in 1998–99. [93815]

The Office for National Statistics' performance is described in the Agency's Annual Report and Accounts which is being laid before the House and published today. Copies have been placed in the Libraries of the House.

ONS's performance against its key targets was good and in the case of the compliance plan and efficiency savings both targets were exceeded. In a few cases the target was missed marginally. Targets for 1999–2000 are set out in the ONS Business Plan 1999–2002, which was published in March. Copies of the Business Plan are in the Library.
