To ask the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry what is his policy on the Multi-fibre Agreement; and if he will make a statement. [93367]

Mr. Wilson

The Government's policy is that, in accordance with the commitments that the Community entered into in the GATT Uruguay Round, quota restrictions maintained by members of the World Trade Organisation (WTO) on imports of textile and clothing products originating in other members of the WTO shall be phased out over a 10-year period ending on 31 December 2004.
