HC Deb 27 July 1999 vol 336 c241W
Mr. Alan Johnson

To ask the Secretary of State for Health if the review of procurement processes mentioned in the Information for Health document has been carried out. [92582]

Mr. Denham

The purpose of the review into National Health Service information management and technology procurement in England is to improve the procurement and implementation of "fit for purpose" clinical systems. The review is in two phases, with the first phase reporting to Ministers at the end of March 1999. The second Phase is due for completion shortly. Relevant information from the review will be published on the IM and T investment website at www.open.gov.uk/doh/itinvest.htm.

Mr. Alan Johnson

To ask the Secretary of State for Health what plans there are for the NHS Information Authority to implement a standard PFI contract for IT services. [92583]

Mr. Denham

The desirability and feasibility of a standard Private Finance Initiative contract for Information Technology services is being considered as part of the National Health Service IT Procurement Review. In addition, Her Majesty's Treasury's Task Force are developing standard contract clauses for IT services. The NHS Executive will take this work into account before considering whether to implement standard contracts for IT services, whether funded through the Private Finance Initiative or public capital.
