HC Deb 27 July 1999 vol 336 c379W
Ann Clwyd

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will establish a conflict prevention council to include representatives of other departments to report on countries of high conflict potential. [93295]

Mr. Tony Lloyd

The Government's work on conflict prevention is carefully co-ordinated. The Joint Intelligence Committee brings together all the relevant Departments and agencies to assess situations and issues of current concern. The Foreign and Commonwealth Office, Ministry of Defence and Department for International Development (and other Departments as appropriate) work closely together on conflict prevention policies both overall and in relation to individual regions and countries at risk.
