To ask the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport when schools will be able to apply for funding to promote youth music from the new body set up by his Department and the Department for Education and Employment. [91362]

Mr. Alan Howarth

The National Foundation for Youth Music, which is a charitable body operating independently of Government, is currently consulting on its proposed criteria and eligibility. The consultation period will conclude on the 1 October, after which finalised criteria and eligibility will be published.

To ask the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport what estimate he has made of the number of children who will benefit from the new National Foundation for Youth Music. [91368]

Mr. Chris Smith

The National Foundation for Youth Music is an independent body, and is responsible for identifying its policies and outputs without reference to Ministers. The Foundation's ultimate aim is to ensure that every child has the opportunity to access music-making.
