HC Deb 22 July 1999 vol 335 cc632-3W
23. Mr. Bill O'Brien

To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer what representations he has received over the proposals in his Budget statement of 9 March relating to work; and if he will make a statement. [91120]

Mrs. Roche

Treasury Ministers have received a number of representations. Measures announced in the Budget will provide a better deal for working people. From October, every family with children and with full-time earnings will have a minimum income guarantee of £200 per week under the Working Families Tax Credit. People in work will have seen the gains from the new 10p rate of Income Tax in their May pay packets, and, from next April, the basic rate will be cut to 22p to reward work and ensure working families are better off. Over 450,000 people have already benefited from the New Deal and over 130,000 have found jobs.
