HC Deb 16 July 1999 vol 335 cc345-6W
Jackie Ballard

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what new data series separated by gender, race, disability and age have been commissioned by his Department since June 1997. [90532]

Mr. Mike O'Brien

Since June 1997, my Department has commissioned the following internal staff surveys or monitoring information:

  1. (i) A survey of central Home Office staff was carried out in early 1997. This included details by gender, race and age and also included a question on disability. The results of the survey were published in the September 1998 issue of "Personnel News", the Home Office staff magazine. A second staff survey is planned for September 1999.
  2. (ii) For each recruitment campaign, applicants' information is collected on gender, ethnicity and disability to augment the data already held. This included recent recruitment campaigns for Administrative Assistants, Assistant Immigration Officers and Immigration and Prison Officers. Similar information was collected for recent promotion boards.
  3. (iii) A staff disability survey, to update and collect new information, is currently being prepared.
