I am today submitting to the European Commission the UK Government's proposals for Assisted Areas under Article 87(3)a and 87(3)c of the EC Treaty.

A document explaining our protocols will be placed in the Library of the House and a copy will be sent to each hon. Member to inform him or her of our proposals. My right hon. Friends the Secretaries of State for Wales and for Scotland will write to the devolved Administrations setting out the proposals for Wales and Scotland.
